On January 26 of this year the Armenian apostolic church
opened two-week festivals on the occasion of the Day of Saint Sargis - patron of
lovers. The celebration has public character, since the Middle
Ages. In modern Armenia the holiday is officially celebrated since 2007. On
January 29, 2013 the state enterprise "Haypost" introduced into
circulation a postage stamp devoted to the Saint Sargis Day. On stamp is presented
the miniature from the Gospel of the XIV century.

The Saint Sargis (285-337) - one of darlings sacred the
Armenian people whom for bravery the Byzantine emperor Konstantin awarded with
a title of the prince and appointed the commander of Cappadocia adjoining on
Armenia. During persecutions on Christians the Saint Sargis left the empire and
found a haven in Christian Armenia.
According to a legend the Saint Sargis with angels flies by
over houses. And if in a tray with flour leaves a trace from a hoof of the
white horse - a purity and innocent symbol, this year dreams of lovers will by
all means be executed. The Saint Sargis's Armenian holiday is similar to the St.
Valentine's Day which is celebrated around the world on February 14.
