At dawn on June 22, 1941 Germany and its allies without
declaring the war suddenly attacked the Soviet Union. Soviet troops were raised
on alarm by the order of command, but in the frontier Brest Fortress the war
itselfwas the alarm. On eve of the Great Patriotic War on June 21, 2013 the
Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus will
issue a postage stamp “Defense of Brest Fortress”. The stamp includes the
fragment of painting reproduction of Yevgeni Zaitsev “Defense of Brest Fortress
in 1941”
(1950).

The postage issue "Chronicles of Victory" pays
tribute to the unfading glory of the heroes that conquered the freedom of our
Motherland. One of the heroic pages in the history of World War II is the defense
of the Brest Fortress in 1941. The defense of the Brest Fortress became a symbol of
indomitable perseverance and courage of the defenders of the Motherland. On May
8, 1965 the Brest Fortress was awarded the honorary title “HeroFortress”.
