On April 20 20013 by the post of Georgia is issued a postage
block devoted to the construction project of the railway which connect the
former Soviet republics capitals Tbilisi, Baku with the Turkish city Kars. The
Georgian postage issue continues a plot of the Azerbaijani post - the block of
2 values published on December 12, 2012.
The railway line Baku - Kars through Tbilisi is a part of the
grandiose project which provides connection of system of the railroads of South
Caucasus through Turkey with a railway line of Europe. After the implementation
a branch of Baku - Tbilisi - Kars becomes the most important railway corridor
of Europe – Caucasus - Asia. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project is strategically important for
Georgia as thanks to a new way which importance of the Georgian railroad will
increase as an alternative transport corridor between Europe and Asia. It
provides also movement of passenger trains that is important for development of
the tourist direction to Georgia.
