On December 19, 2012 throughout the series "Memorable
and Anniversaries" the Kazakhstan post introduced into circulation a postage
stamp devoted to the 100 anniversary of the Swedish diplomat Raul Wallenberg
(1912-1947) - a person saved the lives of tens thousands Hungarian Jews in the
Holocaust.
The issue is printed in mini sheet of 10 values with decorating
margins. Artist: D. Mukhamejanov.. Printing - offset in 4
colors. Perforation - frame. Size if stamp: 30 x 28 mm. Edition: 30 000
copies. Printed by Company "Publishing house "Belarusian House Printing"
(Belarus).
In 1944 Raul Wallenberg worked as the first secretary of the
Swedish diplomatic mission in Budapest. Using the diplomatic status, he had
given to many Jews "Swedish protective passports", giving to owners
the status of the Swedish citizens expecting repatriations. After liberation of
Budapest by the Soviet armies he was arrested by Smersh. The information on its
further destiny is poor and inconsistent. There is a version that he died in
Stalin camps and also that he was the confidential employee of the American
intelligence secret service.
