On the International Women's Day March 8, 2013 the Latvia post
as sign of attention to women and Samurais issued a postage stamp with image of
the irises - decorative flowers which thanks to the graceful unfading foliage
decorate a garden all season.
The issue is printed in form of tete-beche pairs in mni sheet of 4 values. Designer: Lilija Dinere Edition: half million copies. Printed by the State printing
house "Baltijas banknote", Latvia.
The iris in transfer from the Ancient Greek means Rainbow. It’s
amazingly beautiful flower of the Ancient Greek goddess of a rainbow of Irida
striking with richness of paints. In Japan the irises are considered fairly as
one of the most unpretentious and hardy plants. There it call the flower of the
Samurai symbolizing endurance, firmness and courage.
