In 2011 and 2012 the Latvian post published the postage
issues devoted to free seaports Riga and Ventspils. Information about the
issues is published on website UkraFil in news of August 27, 2011 and of May 8,
2012. Unlike the Latvian ports Riga and Ventspils the Liepaja port
has no status free but in the territory covering practically all cities, the
special economic zone works. On August 23, 2013 the Latvia post issued a postage stamp
devoted to the Liepaja port. The issue is printed in mini sheet of 10 values with decorating margins

printing house "Baltijas banknote", Latvia.
The medieval name of Liepaja city is "Liva Portas"
(Livonian harbor). With the entry of Courland in the Russian Empire in 1795,
the city received the name Libau. Located on the shores of the Baltic Sea the Liepaja
port (Liepājas osta) is the third largest port in Latvia. Because of the
constant sea breeze Liepaja is known as the "City where the wind is
born".
