The Latvia music for many years was under strong influence
of German culture, only at the end of the XIX century the national school
started to be formed. It’s in many respects obliged by the formation to St.
Petersburg. In this city studied and there lived many outstanding
representatives of the Latvian intellectuals. Among them are both composer Jāzeps
Vītols and Emil Dārziņš..
Yesterday, on November 10, 2012, the Latvian post presented
the fourth issue from series "100 anniversary of the Latvia Independence"
- a set of 3 values devoted to the Latvian composers and musicians. In total the
enterprise “Latviias pasts“ plans the edition of ten postage issues till 2018. The
set is printed in 3 mini sheets of 8 values and label with decorating margins.
Emil Dārziņš (1875-1910) - the composer and the musical
critic, the classic of the Latvian choral and solo song. Jāzeps Vītols (Joseph
Ivanovich Vitol, 1863-1948) was the composer the musical critic and the
teacher. In 1918 headed the Latvian national opera, a year later based the
Latvian conservatory in which held a post of the professor of composition and
the rector. Talivaldis Kenins (1920-2008) - the composer, the author of
compositions of chamber music, symphonies, concerts, cantatas. He was the
honorable professor of University in Toronto.
