Today, September 1, 2013 there are 217 years to one of the
oldest Baltic lighthouses constructed in 1796 in the German port Memel (nowadays the
Lithuanian port Klaipeda). On July 27, 2013 by the Republic of Lithuania post throughout
the series "Science and Equipment Monuments" is introduced into
circulation a set of 2 values devoted to the Baltic lighthouses: in Klaipeda and in
the Venta cape. The issue is printed in 2 mini sheets of 9 values with decorating
margins.

The cape Venta lighthouse was constructed in 1863. It’s
located in 30 meters
from the sea. Its height makes 11 meters, the signal is visible at distance of
3,5 kilometers.
In 1929 professor Tadas Ivanauskas created on lighthouse an ornithological
station. The Klaipeda lighthouse is included on September 1, 1796. It
is located in 500 meters
from the sea. Height - 44
meters above sea level. The signal is visible at
distance of 33 nautical miles.
