An emergence of the independent Lithuanian state became one
of results of World War I. According to the Versailles peace treaty the Memel
area belonging to Germany was transferred under collective management of the Entente’s
countries. In 1923 the Baltic port Memel who had been under protectorate of
France after the armed conflicts and long diplomatic negotiations was transferred
to Lithuania and received other name – Klaipeda.
On June 29, 2013 the Lithuanian post introduced into circulation
a postage block devoted to the 90 anniversary of accession of the port Klaipeda
to Lithuania. On block margins is presented the type of harbor of the Klaipeda
port from height of a seagull flight. On stamp in block is represented the sea
anchor - one of Klaipeda sights.
