The Lithuania post devotes a new postage issue to the
Lithuanian national bird - a peoples symbol White stork. On April 6, 2013 will
arrive into circulation a postage stamp with image of a bird that know, love
and protect everything young and old in Lithuania. The White stork (Ciconia
ciconia) is a bird that lives only in the healthy environment and lodges only
in the environmentally friendly district. The house or the estate near which
the stork built a nest, according to national signs, is noted by a sign of good
luck, family happiness and wellbeing.
The issue is printed in mini sheet of 2 values. Artist:R. Grigaravičius Cover design:R. Mašidlauskytės Offset. Art paper. Size of stamp: 36 x 50.8
mm. Edition: 80 000 copies.(40 000 sheetlets). Printing
in printing-house “Garsu Pasaulis”
(Lithuania).
Now, at least, 12.5-13 thousand couples of white storks live
in Lithuania. For the purpose of preservation and enhancement of this esteemed
population of birds and creation for it optimum living conditions in 2009 the
Lithuanian ornithological society together with foreign colleagues started in
life the ecological project "Protection of the White Stork in
Lithuania".
