On July 17 the Republic of Lithuania celebrated the 80
anniversary of the legendary flight through Atlantic by the Lituanika plane
piloted by Styaponas Daryus and Stasis Girenas. The plane fell to the ground
and broke on July 17, 1933. The flight which purpose was to make a name of
Lithuania known around the world had proceeded 37 hours and 11 minutes. Daryus
and Girenas had to overcome 7186 kilometers. To an ultimate target – the
capital of Lithuania of Kaunas - pilots still had only 775 kilometers.
On July 20, 2013 the Lithuanian post introduced into
circulation a postage stamp devoted to the 80 anniversary of Transatlantic
flight of S. Daryus and S. Girenas. Artist: А.

In the dedication which has become a peculiar will, pilots
stated the flight purpose: to lay an intercontinental air way through Northern
Atlantic, to investigate the direction of air streams over the ocean and in
practice to check novelties of navigation inventions.
