On July 5, 2013 the Moldavian post introduced into
circulation a set of 4 values devoted to the collection of exotic butterflies
from selections of the National Museum of ethnography and history of Moldova.
On stamps are presented the following species of tropical butterflies: Thysania
agrippina, Papilio blumei, Salamis temora, Cymothoe excelsa.
The issue is printed in 4 mini
sheets of 9 sets with decorating margins and in collective sheetlet of 2 sets and label. Designer: Аlexander Kornienko. Edition of stamps: 1.0, 1.75 & 1.75 L - 100 000 copies. 5.75 L - 50 000 copies. Edition of collective sheetlet - 5555 copies.
Thysania agrippina is the largest butterfly on the wing
span. It is found in the tropics of Central and South America. The wingspan of
260-320 mm. Papilio blumei is found only in Melanesia, the islands of
Sulawesi and Kalimantan, where he lives in gardens and forest edges. The
wingspan of 120-140 mm. Salamis temora lives in dense forests and coastal thickets
of Nigeria, Cameroon and many other African countries. The wingspan of 60-70 mm. Cymothoe excelsa is the habitat of Central and West Africa.
