According to the ancient chronicle «The Tale of Bygone
Years» in 6496, «from the world creation» i.e. (in the year 988 BC.) Prince of
Kiev Vladimir Svyatoslavovych decided to be baptized by the Church of
Constantinople. At the baptism of the Kiev inhabitants St. Vladimir offered up
the following prayer: "God, the great, the Creator of heaven and earth,
give ear to the new collective consensus and people give them, Oh, God, to know
Thee, the true God, when you know a Christian country, and put the faith in
them right and do not seduce and help me, Oh, God, opposite the enemy relying on
you and on. Thy power, run intrigues him! "
July 28, 2013 as a joint project of the Russian Federation,
Belarus and Ukraine to commemorate the 1025 anniversary of the Baptism of
Russia the russian post issued a postage block marking the "civilized
choice» of the peoples of Russia. On block is displayed a picture of V.
Vasnetsov "Rus’ Baptism” from the State Tretyakov Gallery collection.
