"Misters chess players! You, of course, know that the
horse on the edge costs badly that the isolated pawns - terrible muck and that it
is impossible to go in a debut twice with one figure. All these platitudes well
are known for everything, and therefore in decent society about it aloud don’t
speak. And we won't speak about it..."

"Tarrash quite often came back home late and in an
insole with the drunk. The wife, having slightly filled it a muzzle for
prevention, usually asked: - You where were? - I played Chess with friends. - And why from you as vodka smells? - And well, from me as chess, perhaps, has to smell?"
(I. Ilf, E. Petrov "Twelve chairs").
