The architectural reserve Kunya-Urgench located in the North
of Turkmenistan on a limit of the extensive sandy Kara Kum Desert, on a place
of the capital of the medieval state of Khoresm, is not only the known tourist
center, but important object of pilgrimage of Muslims. Ancient Urgench existed,
obviously, throughout more than two thousand years: since antiquity and before
the late middle Ages and its greatest blossoming fell on the middle of the XIV
century.
On February 4, 2013 the Turkmen post issued 2 postage Blocks
devoted to the monuments historical and cultural heritage remained on the
territory of Turkmenistan in the settlement Old Urgench. On Block of 10 values are
presented a medieval palaces, mausoleums and mosques of various east dynasties.
The Block of 6 values represents "pearl" of Khoresm the mausoleum
Tyurabek-hanym (the middle of the XIV century) - a high and light six-sided
hall of 100 sq.m of its wall are decorated with a color mosaic. Over a hall is
the spherical bowl on which the mosaic panel of the thinnest work is intensive
on color and a complicate geometry ornament on from stars and polyhedrons with
flower drawing is put soars. The face value of stamps is also designated by letter
"M", i.e. "Miras" (on Turkmen "Heritage"). Edition
of each block - 10 thousand copies.
Ancient Urgench is a model of those outstanding achievements
in the field of architecture and crafts which were reached by an ancient
civilization Khoresmshakhs. Influence of this culture was shown in Iran and
Afghanistan, and later in architecture of the empire of Great Moguls in India. In
2005 historical monuments Kunya-Urgench are included in List of the UNESCO World
heritage.
